Testing Personnel in a Moderate or High Complexity Laboratory

Florida clinical laboratory technicianTesting Personnel are responsible for specimen data entry and processing, preparation of blood, urine and tissue samples for analysis, test performance, and reporting test results. The individual’s skill level, the scope of testing and responsibilities is determined by the Laboratory Director based on education, training, experience, and technical abilities.

You may specialize in the areas of chemistry, hematology, cytotechnology, immunology, virology or microbiology.

The Medical Laboratory Technician needs knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs routine laboratory tests in one or more departments in the Clinical Laboratory. Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
  • Responsible for all aspects of documentation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors routine laboratory functions, initiates and documents corrective action and works to improve laboratory service and patient care.
  • Performs testing on blood, body fluids and other specimens using standard equipment and adhering to department and section standards of operations.
  • Evaluates the acceptability of specimens prior to initiating the testing process.
  • Knows ordering, collection, labeling, transportation and processing requirements.
  • Evaluates results as specified in department S.O.P.s; recognizes abnormal results for specific age of patient.
  • Reports patient results in compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Assures the quality of testing results by performing quality control procedures, instrument calibration, instrument function checks and instrument maintenance according to laboratory Quality Control policies and procedures.
  • Assures the quality of testing results by performing proficiency testing and competency assessments according to laboratory policies and procedures. Maintains records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Performs basic computer functions within the Laboratory Information System.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Completes assignments on time and utilizes time effectively.
  • Supports cost containment efforts through the conservation of supplies, care of equipment and increased productivity.
Minimum Qualifications:

Clear/Active Clinical Laboratory Technician Florida license.

3 years current and continuous lab experience, with a proven record of consistent and accurate performance.

Training and experience in working with Beckman Coulter analyzers.

Computer experience or course work in computer and data processing is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Beckman Coulter: AU480 Chemistry Analyzer, Access 2 Immunoassay Analyzer, LH 750 Hematology Analyzer, ACL Elite Coagulation Analyzer.

Phlebotomy training, Florida license and experience.

Excellent MS Office and multi-tasking skills.

Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the desire to grow and continue education.

We are an independent reference lab with the mission to provide superior quality service for physicians and their patients. Every employee and every customer is important. The staff is small, the pace is fast but customer service and individual attention to every account is a priority.

Work Hours

Morning shift: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Evening shift: 4:00 pm - 12:00 am
